U.S. Embassy Abidjan Public Affairs partnered with the International University of Grand Bassam, Coca-Cola, the City of Grand Bassam, and the Ministry of Urban Sanitation to lead over 1,100 volunteers in a beach cleanup entitled “Ma Plage, Mon Pays” (My Beach, My Country).

The effort by U.S. Embassy staff, alumni, over 700 university and high school students, Ministry staff, and community members highlighted International Coastal Cleanup Day, as well as creating awareness about the importance of healthy oceans and a clean environment. The event coincided with the “Our Ocean” conference in Washington DC, in which the government of Cote d’Ivoire participated. Over 30 journalists, from both local and international outlets, covered the event, which was followed by a lively beach dance party sponsored by Coca Cola.
