U.S. Citizen Services

General Information

The American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit of the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Abidjan provides services to U.S. citizens living in Côte d’Ivoire, as well as to many tourist and business visitors each year. Among other things, the unit provides passport services, registers the birth of U.S. citizen children born abroad, offers notarial services, gives information on voting, and provides information to U.S. citizens visiting and residing in Cote d’Ivoire.

All of these services are available at the Consular Section by appointment.  Please click here to make an appointment and see available times for passport and citizenship services.  Appointments are mandatory and required for all public services except emergencies.

Please schedule your appointment only after you have completely read the information on our website related to the service you need.  To reduce your wait time, please fill out all application forms and paperwork online in advance and bring them with you to your appointment.

Impact of COVID-19 on Consular Services

Effective April 2, the U.S. Department of State is no longer printing routine passports and Consular Reports of Death Abroad due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Applicants should expect significant delays in receiving these documents.

In an emergency (if you need to urgently travel), U.S. Embassy Abidjan can assist with an emergency passport for an adult or a minor.  These passports are valid for a shorter period of time (no greater than one year) and generally intended for those with an urgent need to return to the United States.

If you have previously applied for a passport or citizenship service, you should expect significant delays receiving your passport and your citizenship evidence documents. You can email us at ABJAmCit@state.gov to check on the status of your passport or citizenship document such as a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA).

Appointments are still required for an emergency passport.  Please make an appointment online.  Please review all guidance on passport applications before coming for your appointment so we can most efficiently serve you during your appointment.  If you need a passport sooner, please email ABJAmCit@state.gov to see if we can accommodate you at an earlier time.

Please consider waiting to apply until we resume normal operations if you don’t urgently need to travel at this time.
