The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens that the Government of Côte d’Ivoire has initiated a program to demobilize and relocate ex-combatants out of Abidjan. Some of the ex-combatants have reportedly expressed a reluctance to comply with the resettlement orders, and it is unclear how they will react. The Embassy, therefore, urges U.S. citizens to avoid the Abobo and Adjame neighborhoods – particularly the Université Nangui Abrogoua.

We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Côte d’Ivoire enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at travel.state.gov. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
Regularly monitor the State Department’s website, where you can find current Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution. Read the Country Specific Information for Côte d’Ivoire. For additional information, refer to the “Traveler’s Checklist” on the State Department’s website.
