Ten participants in a U.S. Embassy-sponsored training on fact checking, created a platform in order to counter fake news in Côte d’Ivoire. The country will be holding presidential elections in October 2020, and the role of social media and their users will be a key factor in the outcome of the vote. The ten participants were selected from nearly 300 applicants, demonstrating the level of the interest in social media. The training featured an independent journalist and social media expert who shared his experience in countering falsehood and determining whether a video or a photo published on social media is fake or not.
