Panel on Women’s Role Preventing Violent Extremism

Over 90 civil society members and government officials attended a panel discussion of the role of women in preventing violent extremism in Mission Abidjan’s IRC on July 28. “We all know that violent extremists are among the greatest threats to global stability,” Ambassador Terrence McCulley said. “But they also pose a threat to the empowerment of women and girls by fueling misogyny and by exploiting local resistance to gender equality.” The panel discussion, covered by more than 10 media outlets, was the second Abidjan CVE panel held after a terrorist attack killed 20 in Grand Bassam on March 19. The effort feeds directly into Mission Abidjan’s strategic effort to promote stability through democratization and security sector reform.
