Chargé d’Affaires Andrew Haviland presided over the launch of the 7th phase, 2016-2018 edition of the English Access Microscholarship program on April 12 at the U.S. Embassy. The ceremony was attended by Ministry officials, students, teachers and parents and also marked the closure of the 5th phase of the 2014-2016 edition of this program. In his speech, Mr. Haviland stressed the importance of education and learning English. “I am sure that just like the U.S. government, you recognize the importance of education in our society and especially the usefulness of English which has become the language of communication on a global scale in many areas, Including international relations, business, science, etc.” Through the Access program, initiated in Côte d’Ivoire in 2009, the U.S. Embassy is sponsoring students from the Lycées Moderne in Treichville and Municipal of Marcory. These extra-curricular courses will take place over a period of two academic years, on Wednesdays and during the school holidays.
